Editorial policy

The rules our reporters and editors work to, published so you can hold us to them.

Last updated 1 September 2026

Independence

Advertisers, sponsors and affiliate partners have no say over what we cover, how we cover it or what score a product receives. Commercial staff do not see stories before publication.

Sourcing and verification

Numbers are checked against the filing, the exchange notice or the statistical release, not against a press release. Claims about authorisation are checked against the regulator's public register. Anonymous sources are used only when the information matters and cannot be obtained on the record, and an editor must know who the source is.

Holdings

Reporters disclose individual securities they hold to their editor and do not write about companies they own shares in, other than through broad index funds. Staff do not trade on stories before publication.

Advertising and sponsored content

  • Display, video and native ad placements are labelled “Advertisement”, “Sponsored” or “From our partners”.
  • Sponsored articles are written or approved by the sponsor and carry a label at the top.
  • Reviews never include paid placement, and rankings are never sold.

Corrections

When we get something wrong we fix it and say so at the foot of the article, with the date. To report an error, use the contact page.

Investment content

We report on markets; we do not give investment advice, publish price targets of our own or recommend individual securities. Where a story could move a small stock, we say who has an interest in it.
